Research on Recent Trends and related perceptions of retail in India

Greetings from Aurora’s Business School,
Aurora's Business School is a premier Business school in Andhra Pradesh and has a record of nurturing globally responsible citizens. Aurora’s Business School is a part of Aurora’s Consortium which is one of the most reputed groups based out of Hyderabad. With more than 5,000 students enrolled each year, there are close to 15,000 students studying at any given point of time and with a large alumnus of 50,000 students.
We Students of Aurora’s Business School have taken an initiative of conducting a research in retail industry about consumer and retailer perception with due consideration to Foreign Direct Investment in India. This research is being taken up under the guidance of research team of Aurora’s Business School and in collaboration with strategic consulting and analytics companies, EnterPrize Analytics and Decision Tree.
The proposed research intends to draw its insights from both primary and secondary sources, thereby creating a blend of qualitative and quantitative analysis of the current trends affecting retailing industry in India. To meet this end, we plan to collaborate with 20 management institutions in Andhra Pradesh wherein we would require the students of those colleges to involve in data collection and analysis process, and in turn gain deeper insights into the management learning in a unique and hands on manner. We request the patronage of these institutions in making this gigantic effort successful and help the students of this state create a new trend in establishing interactive and effective practice based management learning environment at a higher scale
Objectives
To study and understand:
- Consumer’s understanding about organized and unorganized retailing
- Consumers perception about the FDI policies in Retail Industry
- Retailers perceptions on FDI policy

Executive Summary
There has been considerable growth in organized retailing business in recent years and it is poised for much faster growth in the future. An important aspect of the current economic scenario in India is the emergence of organized retail. Major industrial houses have entered this area and announced very ambitious future expansion plans. Concerns have been raised that the growth of organized retailing may have an adverse impact on retailers in the unorganized sector, it is essential that an in-depth analytical study on the possible effects of organized retailing in India is to be conducted. This research is conducted to study and understand the consumer and retailer perception about the current trends in Retail Industry in India.
Methodology
Empirical research is a way of gaining knowledge by means of direct and indirect observation or experience. Therefore the research would take off on the strong base of the following events:
1. Data Collection through survey
2. Filling up and compiling the data in prescribed format
3. Analysis and interpretation of the compiled data
4. Final Report drafting
What we expect from Participating Institutions:
• The students of the registered colleges would be provided with the hard copy of questionnaires. This questionnaires have to be filled in as per guidelines
• The survey details gained out of this survey has to be compiled and filled in excel sheet (format of which would be sent to the participants)
