In NEN week one group of e-leaders planned for a workshop called 'SCHOOLONOMICS'. It was a workshop for the school children where in, they have explained about the benefits of cycling. As a part of the workshop we have conducted cycling competition through which we promoted cycling and also conducted few dance sessions to encourage them.

Our learnings out of the NEN week were, the school students were very much aware of the bad effects of the pollution and were very positive about Cycling. This was the same case with the corporate offices which were actively participating and were very positive about the usage of cycle. People are aware of the bad effects of the pollution and wanted to contribute in reducing their carbon foot print. For those people, we gave a platform for cycling through Social Enterprise called BUY-CYCLE.

For financial support, a registration fee of Rs 50 was collected from each of the participants. We also attended NEN E-award ceremony  at Bangalore, which was one of the rocking events we attended. We met kiran mazumdar shaw-Founder and Managing Director of Biocon Limted and Romesh Wadhwani founder of Wadhwani foundation, interviewed them and collected their valuable insights & suggestions about Entrepreneurship.

E Leaders Workshop in ABS: 8-9 October

As leaders of their Entrepreneurship Cells on campus, NEN E Leaders drive a wide, critical range of tasks and activities: From motivating and engaging student members to conducting mega events and programs to help connect their E Cell members to the right resources in the community. In order to help them perform this role to the best of their abilities, the NEN Trust has put together the NEN E Leader Development Workshop. The workshop is a platform to connect E Leaders in a region, establish worthwhile collaborative relationships, exchange ideas & best practices from within the Region and also meet other members of the community beyond the E Leaders (i.e. E Club, Entrepreneurs, VC's & Experts).

Guest Speak Phani Pattamatta, Venture Capitalist on December 3rd 2010.

Brief profile of the guest:
Phani Pattamatta, Startup specialist, mentor & advisor is a former student of XLRI & HCU and Ex-Adecco Business Head. He has 18 years of post qualification experience, of which over a decade of working with start-ups, and successfully building businesses from scratch. He is founding member of couple of successful Tech Cos. Post exit is now running a boutique consulting firm: CREDOSYS.

He nurtures young/new entrepreneurs through NEN-National Entrepreneurship Network (Wadhwani group initiative). He is also a Graduate Engineer from Osmania University and marketed WIPRO range of IT products for over 9 years in different markets across country.

The session started by the introduction of the guest to the audience which included the first and the second year PGDM students. Mr Phani then spoke of his experience as a venture capitalist or a fund raiser for various business startups etc. He briefed the students on how to write the business plan and what usually attracts the venture capitalist and the financials and the expected turnover that the capitalist is looking for. Most venture talk about a lot of investment but fail to let the people know as to how they plan to recover their investment. This was the clear message given to the students as to what aspects they need to be very careful about. What are the challenges in writing a business plan to satisfy a angle investor or a venture capitalist.

There were 2 Business plan presentations given: The first Business plan was on a shopping mall with a difference given by Somagiri of the first year PGDM, wherein the expert comment was that the students need to think more of the 85% of the market that is the rural segment and then go about the details of the plan. The second business plan presentation was by Rinto Rajan of the second year PGDM who made a presentation on “Second innings” a shop for the 50+ years, here the expert made suggestions that home delivery aspect should be taken care of because they deal with the elderly.

In all the students had a wonderful experience of interacting with an investor who threw light on the important aspect i.e the financials in a Business Plan and gained a lot from his experiences.

Regards,
Kalyani Barma.
