Art of Living Foundation’s ‘Youth Empowerment and Skills Workshop’ at ABS
World Alliance for the Youth Empowerment (WAYE) introduced a week long Youth Empowerment & Skills Workshop (YES!+) at ABS in the month of August . A powerful life-skills program, that charges the youth with a fresh breath of vigor, enthusiasm, excellence and responsibility. YES! + enables students to absorb the freshness, the repose and all the positivity around them, and helps them discharge stress, inhibitions, bad habits, and barriers.
YES!+ is a brilliant mix of antiquity and the contemporary. It is a smooth blend of ancient wisdom, yoga, pranayama (breath control), and meditation, fused with contemporary intellectual exchanges, music and games. And of-course it includes Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s powerful and famous breathing technique, the Sudarshan Kriya.
As a part of imparting academic knowledge to the students and laying the foundation for their future professional success, ABS ensured that every student participated to excel academically, socially, professionally and morally. The program encouraged creativity and innovation, Leadership skills, team work, decision making abilities, communication skills and breath perspective.
WAYE is a not –for profit yoth NGO with young people from over 30 countries. Mr Tapan worked with the team of volunteers for week at ABS to conduct the program. The topics discussed during the sessions were Environment, Health , Gender mainstreaming and civic Governance, simple solutions to larger problems. YES plus is the flagship program series of training modules from WAYE. The program covered the following modules, depending on the profile of the participants :
- Breathing techniques and meditations to release stress, relax the mind and improve concentration.
- Making new friends, openingup to people and being natural.
- Games to enhance alertness and awareness, also awareness, also to channelize their energies.
- Shedding inhibitions and building self – confidence, speaking in a group.
- Dealing with uneasy situations, facing criticism and failure.
- Sensitivity towards people objects and situations.
- Enhancing creativity.
- Awareness about the right type of food and eating habits.
- Taking responsibility and the spirit of service.
- Having the right Role Models.
- Setting goals, defining success.
- Relationship with parents.
